Jesus for President

Jesus for President is a radical manifesto to awaken the Christian political imagination, reminding us that our ultimate hope lies not in partisan political options but in Jesus and the incarnation of the peculiar politics of the church as a people “set apart” from this world. This series walks us through the imaginative and beautifully illustrated 2008 book, Jesus for President, by Shane Claiborne. In a time when many have turned to politics as the hope for a new future, this text reminds us of the path Jesus followed–a path in which rather than appeal to the human means of power through politics, Jesus refused that path. Jesus in fact suffered and died not only for our sins, but also because he refused to seize political power. Or maybe those two are deeply entwined? In this series we will be reminded that God works through the humble and the servants of all. That more often than not God chooses the weak to shame the strong and the servant who suffers to change the world, not the conquering heroes we have sought.
