Advent 2023

An Intentionally Tacky Advent

December 3-December 25

Do you hear what I hear? That's right, Advent is almost here! This year, we don't want to add to the hustle and bustle but rather have fun and find joy together as we prepare throughout the weeks for the coming of Christ. To help enrich this time, we have several opportunities for you to mindfully engage as a disciple with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

A Tacky Christmas Advent Devotional: Beginning November 19, pick a weekly devotional (or download it here) to read through on your own or with your family and friends that ties into the sermon series. Each week, we will learn about a tacky tradition and look towards the Sunday ahead to help us prepare our hearts and minds for God to speak and to engage our ears, hearts, and hands in some fun and interesting ways.

Family Christmas Tree: Bring in an ornament that represents you, your family or “framily” to hang on the Family Christmas Tree! This is one of our favorite traditions and each and every ornament tells the story of ALL of us.

Yule Logs and Candles: We will continue to offer this tangible centering piece that you can pick up for yourself or a friend or neighbor. Every time you eat a meal, light a candle each week as we move towards Christmas to remember the light of Christ that has come into the world that the darkness can never overcome.

Weekly Video Reflections: Tune in to our social media accounts @FirstUMCAuburn on Instagram, Youtube, TikTok or Facebook to engage with Ally, Tim, Pastor Rob, and Pastor Nikki as they share about different gifts to get us all thinking about what it means to give and receive during the season of gifting.

Birthday Party for Jesus: We love this party every year because we celebrate Joy Sunday and Jesus with you! Join us on December 17 at 11 am for very participatory worship and cake.

Christmas Eve Services: Christmas Eve is on a Sunday this year, and this provides us with so many ways to celebrate our Savior with family and friends who may be joining us for the holidays. We will have four services this day with our 10 am Lessons and Carols service, 4:30 pm Family service, 7:30 pm Communion service and 11 pm Cantata.
